Remembering Abby

If I Could Speak Before I Go
By the one who loved you with every golden breath: Abby

If I could speak, just one last time,
Before I crossed this fading line,
I’d nuzzle close and lift my face
To memorize your scent, your grace.

I’d feel your hand, warm on my fur,
The way it calmed my every stir.
Your voice, a balm, a gentle breeze,
Still echoing through forest trees.

Don’t weep for me beneath the stars,
For I have chased both moon and cars.
I’ve danced through meadows, wet with dew,
And always came back home to you.

I’ve tasted joy in puddle-splash,
Heard laughter ring like thunder’s crash.
I’ve known the bliss of quiet naps,
With dreams that curled in sunlit laps.

I’ve watched you grow, I’ve kept you whole,
I’ve carried pieces of your soul.
In every game, in every rest,
I knew I’d always had the best.

But now my limbs grow stiff with years,
And your sweet eyes are filled with tears.
So let me go with one last sigh
A whisper on the evening sky.

For where I’m bound, the fields are wide,
With rivers clear and time untied.
The wind is soft, the hills are gold,
And pain no longer has a hold.

Remember me in morning light,
In stars that shimmer through the night.
In rustling leaves and fireflies,
I’ll send you signs with quiet skies.

And when your time has come to roam,
I’ll find you near the twilight’s dome.
With tail held high and heart aglow
I’ll guide you home. I’ll help you know.

Together, where no leash remains,
We’ll run through Love’s eternal plains.
No longer dog and human, then
Just soul and soul… now whole again.
