National Golden Retriever Day

Today is National Golden Retriever Day, and my heart goes straight to Abby.

Abby was more than a golden retriever. She was steady warmth. Quiet courage. A soft presence that knew when to lean in close without being asked. She carried light into hard rooms and left it there long after she walked out.

Her favorite toy was a simple stuffed rabbit. Worn. Loved thin. Always nearby. She carried it the way some souls carry prayer, gently, faithfully, without explanation.

Abby has been gone for a while now, but she is not absent. I still feel her in the quiet moments, in the places where love settles and stays.

Today I honor her.
And every golden who teaches us how to love without conditions.
